The postoperative C-reactive protein level can be a useful prognostic factor for poor outcome and symptomatic vasospasm in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND Ninety-three patients undergoing surgical or endovascular operation secondary to aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) were retrospectively analyzed to determine the influence of the different time points of C-reactive protein (CRP) measurement on the prediction of vasospasm and clinical outcome. METHODS Laboratory data such as the CRP level and the white blood cell count, preop...

Prognostic Factors in Patients who Underwent Aneurysmal Clipping due to Spontaneous Subarachnoid Hemorrhage.

AIM Despite technical and medical advances, aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhages (SAH) continue to be a challenging pathology, associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. In this regard, a definition is required of the various prognostic indicators of an SAH. The aim of the present retrospective study is to examine the various prognostic factors of the clinical outcomes of the patient...

High-Resolution Intracranial Pressure Burden and Outcome in Subarachnoid Hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Intracranial pressure (ICP) control is a therapeutic target in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, although only a limited number of studies assessed its course and effect on outcome. Pressure-time dose (PTDICP) is a method to quantify the burden and the time spent above a defined threshold of ICP. PTDICP or its relationship with outcome has never been evalu...

The Met allele of the BDNF Val66Met polymorphism predicts poor outcome among survivors of aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays a role in neuronal survival, plasticity and neurogenesis. The BDNF gene contains a common Val66Met polymorphism; the Met allele is associated with lower depolarization-induced BDNF release and differences in memory functions and brain morphology. We hypothesized that the Met allele is associated with poor recovery from subara...

Detection of copeptin in peripheral blood of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage

INTRODUCTION Copeptin has been proposed as a prognostic marker in acute illness. This study investigated the ability of copeptin to predict the disease outcome and cerebrovasospasm in the patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. METHODS In this retrospective study, 303 consecutive patients were included. Upon admission, plasma copeptin levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorb...
